The jewel of the kitchen, however, is the sui generis pizza menu curated by Josh. One popular dish is the gluten-reduced Ninth Street Nachos, which features feta cheese, corn mix, cilantro, cheese, sour cream and lime over a tray of tortilla chips. The brewery has a thriving and robust kitchen - which came about as a pandemic pivot from the original plan of providing snacks and appetizers. The Drolls’ eldest son, Austin, runs the front and is a friendly face when ordering and younger son, Josh, is in charge of the kitchen menu. Brent, a computer programmer for a large bank, is the primary brewer Cheryl, a health infection prevention nurse, manages event planning in the attached Okabena room, orders supplies and is the operation’s health code advisor. ![]() The Forbidden Barrel is a family-run business. The first beer brewed at their location on the corner of Ninth Street and Third Avenue in Worthington was the Blue Eyed Czech - a pilsner style beer named after Cheryl’s Czechian ancestry. Since starting his voyage, Brent estimates he has brewed over 200 unique recipes of beer. Then dropped the second shoe - his hobby had grown too large, and in order to continue, Cheryl proposed it become a business venture. He began brewing so much beer that the Drolls began hosting an annual “Oktoberfest” at their Okabena farm each August. That next Father’s Day, Brent received his first homebrew beer kit. ![]()
